UK agriculture must look at supply chains to help us thrive on the world stage. That’s the message from AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds sector strategic director Martin Grantley-Smith.
“There are big changes ahead, but really we’ve needed to do this work for a long time. Brexit gave us the impetus we needed,” he said.
“The UK is just a small part of a big agricultural market but there’s strength in numbers. We want the industry to focus on supply chains, to see whether they might help UK agriculture to make it on the world stage.”
At the AHDB Grain Market Outlook Conference, on 16 October 2018, a panel of experts will lead discussions on if and how supply chains could strengthen UK agriculture.
The UK doesn’t operate in a vacuum, however. For that reason, at the conference, Dr Seth Meyer, who runs the United States Department for Agriculture (USDA) World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE), will give a rigorous global market update and first hand insight into the workings of the reports.
Amandeep Kaur-Purewal, senior analyst at AHDB, said: “It’s important to understand the bigger picture to see how the UK fits in.
“It’s the only conference for the whole of the grain supply chain. The timing is very good too – it helps with preparing for the next year, and it’s good for networking.”
