Visitors to next month’s Potato Days event can receive a 10% discount towards the installation of an ethylene-based potato sprout suppressant system by committing to a site survey.

Organised by DLG (German Agricultural Society), Potato Days is a brand new event and will be held at Dyson Farming’s Nocton site near Lincoln on 4th and 5th September. Despite being the inaugural event, over 150 companies are exhibiting at the show.

The company is marking two decades of installing potato sprout suppressant systems in the UK, notes Jeremy Barraclough, operations director of Biofresh Safestore.

“Potato Days is looking like it will be a significant event for the UK potato industry, and we’re very much looking forward to attending and marking 20 years of using our expertise in Ethylene-based potato sprout suppression,” he says.

Biofresh was established in 2003 to commercialise discoveries made by Newcastle University’s School of Biology, with the first Safestore system being installed in a UK pre-pack store the following year. Since then, the company has gone on to install systems treating more than half a million tonnes of potatoes at farms and potato stores across the UK, Europe and further afield.

Ethylene-based potato sprout suppressant systems are proven to be the all-round best solution for extending the life of potatoes without any chemical residue. The company suggests the Biofresh Safestore system is the most cost-effective ethylene system available and can be used in box or bulk stores.

“The first half of 2024 has been particularly good for us, and we are hoping that by offering a ten per cent discount to people committing to a site survey at Potato Days the second half of the year will be equally busy,” concludes Jeremy.
