Growers needed to trial straight biostimulant

Growers are being invited to take part in a biostimulant trial this season. SugaROx is a spin-out from Rothamsted Research and Oxford University and is looking for farm trialists to test T6P (trehalose-6-phosphate).

The company says being a straight it is unique among biostimulants. It has such a specific biochemical signal it has to be married to the correct physiological stage of the crop. For wheat this would be a 1.5 l/ha application between GS69 – 72.

T6P allows wheat plants to optimise carbon and nutrient supply to the ear, reducing the risk of grain site abortion and fuelling grains. It interacts with SnRK1, an energy-regulating enzyme that influences plant metabolism. T6P changes its activity, allowing more nutrients to be directed to the ear through photosynthesis utilisation and remobilising energy reserves from the stem.

Replicated trials have shown promising results. Winter wheat yield responses have been impressive, ranging from 8 – 22% depending on variety and environmental factors.
