Roger Vickers, PGRO chief executive, reminds growers that the deadline for entering the 2017 PGRO Bean Yield Challenge is fast approaching: “The Bean Yield Challenge is open to UK-based growers of any commercial UK-grown grain crop. A prize trophy will awarded each year for the highest verified yield, while the absolute Yield Challenge winner will be the first grower to achieve a verified yield of 10t/ha or more, with the prize of a 4-night tour to France, including French pulse production visits.
“With both winter and spring bean crops looking good, the challenge can be taken up again with a deadline for this year of 31st July. Many growers achieved highly profitable results from their beans in 2016, even though it was not a banner year for yields. Our winner was Richard Wainwright, who farms at Stonegrave in North Yorkshire, who harvested a very creditable 6.81t/ha from his spring bean crop of Fanfare.
