Simon Britton, Equity Partner and Head of Rural at George F. White, has been appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the British Institute of Agricultural Consultants.
With over 25 years experience in agriculture and rural business consultancy, Simon firmly believes that farmers and rural business owners will increasingly need additional professional advice and guidance from Farm Business Consultants over the coming years, more so than they have ever done, due to the changes brought about by the UK Agricultural Act 2020.
“The rural economy is entering a period of significant change, a perfect storm with the removal of direct subsidies, provison of public goods, lack of succession and potential reform of IHT. The provision of high quality business and environmental advice will be essential if such businesses are not only to survive but also be in a position to take the opportunities that will no doubt present themselves”.
“One of my roles will be to support BIAC members and demonstrate to farming and rural businesses the value of utilising the experience available from our members in order to navigate and prosper through the challenging times ahead of us all within the UK agricultural sector”.
Asked what he hopes to achieve following his appointment Britton responded “Clearly I will continue to support the Chair and wider BIAC Council in working with our members to provide the level of support that the sector will undoubtedly need, but personally I would like to encourage younger consultants to join BIAC to not only grow the overall membership but to establish a truly diverse range of viewpoints and experience”.
