The Campaign for the Farmed Environment is hosting two on-farm events in partnership with Kings and Syngenta that will examine the business benefits of pollinators. At each event, a range of experts will provide an insight into how supporting pollinators and beneficial insects can enhance farm businesses.
The two events are:
7 July – Thrift Farm, Royston SG8 9NN, where pollinator expert Professor Richard Pywell, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology will speak along with representatives from CFE, Kings and Syngenta.
14 July – Rural Innovation Centre, Manor Farm, Harnhill, Cirencester GL7 5PU, where expert input will come from Rothamsted’s Dr Jonathan Storkey along with representatives from CFE, Kings and Syngenta.
Both events will include an opportunity to see established pollinator habitats. Each qualifies for 4 BASIS points.
“Our aim is to show the opportunities that farmers and land managers have to make best use of integrated pest management and the least productive areas of a farm to benefit pollinators,” explains CFE Project Officer Anna Cuckow. “Devoting small areas of a farm to pollinators can deliver big benefits for the environment and farmed landscape.”
This is the fourth summer that CFE has run pollinator events. Since 2014, over 90 events have been held attracting over 1750 participants.
The events are free and open to all – farmers, growers, land managers, advisers and agronomists. However, booking is essential.
