Nufarm at Wyke has won Company of the Year 2017 at the recent Chemical Industry Association (CIA) Awards. The winner of this award will be, in the view of the judges, the most outstanding CIA member company, demonstrating growth of business and a sustained contribution to the UK economy. This award is described as the pinnacle award of the year for the chemical industry.
“The judges were impressed with Nufarm’s achievements through the ongoing manufacturing excellence programme, MCPA capacity expansion and the investment in staff development programmes at every level of the business,” says Toby Brown, country manager for UK and Ireland for Nufarm. They also mention the passion, competence and resourcefulness of the Nufarm team at Wyke to deliver quality products at a global level. Ongoing improvements to costs, quality and risk have enabled us to remain globally competitive whilst operating to some of the highest environmental and safety standards in the world.
“Not everyone recognises that we are the biggest manufacturer of phenoxy chemistry in the world at our production plant at Wyke near Bradford. If farmers want to Buy British, we are probably the only British manufacturer of these crop protection products in the UK. Other companies formulate imported active ingredients but we make and formulate chemistry,” he says.
“We are very proud of our exceptional team at Wyke and pleased for the recognition of all their hard work. The chemists here are overcoming the challenge of making top quality products as well as innovating significant product developments such as Kyleo which formulates glyphosate and 2,4-D together with a high tech surfactant. Kyleo is the smartest solution for total weed control – broad-spectrum and fast acting,” says Toby.
