The latest innovations in crop protection have been on show for Scottish farmers during November as leading machinery dealerships hosted Kuhn Farm Machinery’s 2019 Sprayer Roadshow.
Included in the line-up at events in Elgin, Turriff, Forfar, and Fife were the company’s Oceanis 2 trailed, the Altis 2 mounted and the PF front sprayer that creates a fully mounted tank capacity comparable with trailed and self-propelled alternatives.
The trailed Oceanis 2 has a maximum tank capacity of 7,700 litres, and – with compact all-aluminium booms – offers an operating width up to 48 metres. The range is available with Kuhn’s MultiSpray system, which uses electric nozzle holders to enable in-cab nozzle selection, automatic nozzle selection to suit the forward working speed and to maximise the accuracy of variable rate applications, plus individual nozzle control to reduce overlapping.
The Oceanis also features Kuhn’s self-levelling boom system, which keeps the spray boom in the optimum position and height irrespective of field and crop conditions, thereby increasing spraying precision and reducing spray drift. This system is equipped with a hybrid mode, which uses three sensors to distinguish between crop canopy and ground level, thereby improving spraying accuracy in high density crops such as oilseed rape or potatoes, or where the crop has lodged.
The fully mounted Altis 2 was exhibited with a 2,000 litre tank, which – when used in combination with the PF 1500 front sprayer – gives a fully mounted capacity of 3,500 litres. This machine has the diagonally folding all-aluminium MEA3 boom, which limits the number of joints whilst retaining a compact design. Innovative features, such as headland boom control, give the Altis distinct operational advantages.
Kuhn sprayers are fully ISOBUS compatible, enabling them to be controlled from a single in-cab terminal such as the company’s CCI 1200 console. On the Oceanis, a separate ISOCLICK control box which places the key sprayer controls (section control, boom height and angle) within fingertip reach, can also be used. Oceanis sprayers are also CANBUS compatible and can be operated via Kuhn’s VISIOREB or REB3 controllers.
Kuhn dealerships Agricar, Fife Tractors and Ravenhill were involved in the roadshow and are all stockists of the company’s full range of equipment, including sprayers.
